Responsibilities
This position involves the preparation of experiments for undergraduate analytical, advanced analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry laboratories, and assisting with design and development of labs and instructing others on experiment use and techniques.
Responsibilities Include:
Setting up and preparing undergraduate lab experiments in a timely manner.
Ensuring all equipment is operating properly for use by students enrolled in the lab courses.
Instructing the Graduate Teaching Assistants (as needed) in the proper techniques needed for each lab.
Maintaining and repairing the instruments used in the labs between semesters.
Addressing instrumentation errors, technical difficulties, or instrumentation failures during the lab period.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience.
(Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.
)
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in a science related field and two years of experience related to the position is preferred.
Helpful
Within the first 30 days, candidate should be able to:
Maintain a chemical inventory.
Order chemicals and supplies in a timely manner.
Maintain and operate the gas bottle room utilizing Environmental Health & Safety's training materials.
Within 60 days:
Hiring, training, and supervising OPS student lab workers
Assisting faculty in developing and testing new labs
Within 90 days:
Collect and properly store laboratory hazardous waste for pick up.
Regularly check labs for safety and security.
Complete lab accident forms when accidents occur.

Anticipated Salary Range
Minimum starting salary for the position is $40,000.
Anticipated starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
