MAJOR FUNCTIONS: The Welding Career/Technical Educator Instructor is a grant-funded position at the Liberty Correctional Institution.
The Instructor’s major functions are to teach an appropriate, assigned career/technical education program through the facilitation of a teaching environment (lecture, group, or individual) targeting a diverse population, resulting in the earning of appropriate industry-recognized certifications.
The Instructor also works with the student and the educational staff to assist students with an academic and career pathways plan.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Teach an appropriate, assigned career/technical education program through the facilitation of a teaching environment (lecture, group, or individual) targeting a diverse population resulting in the earning of appropriate industry-recognized certifications.
Deliver Welding Preparation through lectures, question/answer sessions, demonstrations, PowerPoint presentations, simulations, collaborative exercises, and tests.
Guide and advise students, including those with academic problems, and recommend resources available to enhance student success.
Stay current with Florida Department of Education technical assistance paper reports.
Create a community of learners, model mutual respect, and demonstrate positive expectations for student behavior.
Demonstrate instructional balance in learning by acting as the student’s model, coach, and mentor.
Provide a combination of whole-group and small-group instruction utilizing paired activities, team projects, and independent work.
Complete paperwork, maintain records, including student, and assist with the tracking of critical data elements such as industry-recognized certifications.
Access computer databases to review student test scores, complete lesson plans, class roosters, and accurate attendance records.
Practice cooperative learning techniques and utilize formative and summative assessments for advisement and placement.
Identify and develop a universal instructional design and select appropriate materials for effective lessons and individualized learning capabilities.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, attend and complete professional development training, and attend other meetings on behalf of the project.

All student files are kept in a manner that aligns with FDC procedures.
, NCCER, Florida Department of Education (FDOE), and Tallahassee Community College’s rules, procedures, regulations, and standards.
Maintain a good working relationship with Florida Department of Corrections staff, community partners, and other providers working with the DOC Vocational Project.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or its equivalent, and six years of experience in the vocational being taught.
or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution, and two years of occupational experience in the vocation being taught; or additional education or training may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required experience.

Design instruction to achieve student learning outcomes as defined by the College and specific departments and programs.
Conduct class meetings with professionalism and enthusiasm that promote respect for the discipline and education.
Use appropriate technologies and media to enhance learning.
Maintain confidentiality of student records according to FERPA guidelines.
Maintain necessary educational credentials and professional skills appropriate to the teaching assignment.
