MAJOR FUNCTION: The Career Development Specialist is a grant funded position housed within Department of Corrections.
The Career Development Specialist is primarily responsible for the facilitation of employability and life skills, administration and interpretation of assessments, and training to include the Compass 100 hybrid curriculum and Thinking for a Change.
Specifically, the position will provide services related to Compass 100 Hybrid and supplemental in-cell assignments through cell-front instruction for eligible participants who are in restrictive housing as directed by the Lead Educator; services related to Compass 100 Hybrid and Thinking for a Change through a small group setting to eligible participants who are not in restrictive housing as directed by the Lead Educator and reports of monthly attendance, program enrollments and completions on the Department of Corrections approved format.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: An Associate Degree from an accredited college or university and one year of related work experience or a high school diploma and three (3) years of professional experience in the workforce development, social services, corrections or related field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of administrative principles and practices; knowledge of office procedures and practices; knowledge of methods of data collection; knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication; proficient computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Word software; proficient in specking effectively to small groups; ability to work independently with limited supervision; ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to utilize problem-solving techniques; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and complete work assignments with accuracy; ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with others; ability to work in a secured prison setting; ability to work with inmates; ability work within the vicinity of officials that carry guns; and ability to work with users of varying technical expertise.
