Department School of Theatre Responsibilities The successful candidate will have a strong vision for the field, taking the helm as director of our nationally ranked BFA Music Theatre Program.
The candidate will primarily teach courses related to dance/movement/choreography and will be encouraged to continue developing courses related to their interests and explore opportunities to expand on current program offerings.
Additionally, the candidate will maintain national presence at conferences and in professional organizations such as the Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance or the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong record of creative and/or scholarly research and ability to clearly discuss their current research focus/efforts as well as have a plan for future endeavors suitable for an R1 university.
Qualifications An MFA in the discipline or the substantiated equivalent in professional experience of ten years or more are required for the position.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have A proven record of professional activity and creative work in the industry.
An interest in leading a nationally ranked program by developing and expanding curricula.
Ability to teach musical theatre and jazz dance styles as well as other specialties like tap, ballet, or hip hop.
Familiarity with different acting and singing pedagogies.
Interest in re-imagining the performing arts industry alongside students by encouraging and developing new works, advising student productions, and encouraging interdisciplinary work.
Ability and experience in Directing and/or Choreographing.
Interest in/experience with undergraduate recruitment for professional training programs in higher education, including connections within professional theatrical auditions, competitions, workshops, and conferences.
Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students.
Demonstrated ability to model professional practices and strong mentoring ability.
