Responsibilities
The Department of Physics in the College of Arts & Sciences at Florida State University Department seeks applicants for a full-time, open rank specialized faculty position in the Research Support track to manage the shared facilities in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics (CMMP).
The successful candidate will be hired as Assistant in Research, Associate in Research, or Senior Research Associate, commensurate with qualifications.
The individual works with other research engineers and scientists in the department and reports to a tenured faculty member in CMMP.
This position requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with excellent microscopy and spectroscopy skills and good hands-on aptitudes.
The successful applicant will manage and maintain the CMMP shared instruments including a scanning electron microscope (SEM), an atomic force microscope (AFM), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS).
The individual may also participate in projects relating to materials research in the college and is eligible to serve as a principal investigator in federally funded research projects.
Major duties include:
Managing the instruments and associated sample perpetration equipment.
Interacting, assisting, and training users for operation of the instruments and associated sample perpetration equipment.
Routine maintenance and essential repair of the instruments and related sample preparation equipment.
Bookkeeping, including logs, billing, maintenance records, inventory, and consumables purchase.
Qualifications
The candidate must have an advanced degree (M.
S.
or Ph.
D.
) from an accredited institution in a physics or materials science related discipline or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience in a related discipline and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.
Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated record of experience in the instruments in a multi-user environment.
