The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) is a Florida-based, nonprofit corporation specializing in criminal justice (law enforcement focus) and homeland security issues.
In addition to several other national justice programs and projects, IIR's Center for Law Enforcement Safety and Wellness manages national-level officer safety and wellness programs that support state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement, their agencies, and families in their efforts to strengthen their strategies, techniques, and behaviors to ensure that officers and agencies are healthy and able to answer the public safety needs in their communities.

Position Description
The communications specialist creates, evaluates, improves, and analyzes digital and traditional marketing strategies, including promotional materials for products and services that consistently articulate the mission and promotional message of the programs supported by the Law Enforcement Safety and Wellness group.
The communications specialist must possess a keen knowledge and awareness of current communication strategies and trends and the needs and perspectives of key stakeholders, including the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the law enforcement community, and works in a team environment to ensure cohesive and consistent content and messaging.
Promotional products include website and mobile app content, social media content, and other marketing products (e.

, training flyers, talking points, social media platforms).
Responsibilities
Participate in the creation and implementation of promotional materials, including product marketing plans
Create, evaluate, and implement improvements on digital strategy and optimize search engine optimization (SEO)
Analyze and report on digital campaigns.
Collaborate and/or coordinate with subject-matter experts, law enforcement officers, and/or multimedia personnel to gather information (interviews, testimonials, and demonstrations) with the goal of producing focused content within the prescribed style
Review program content for uniformity of message, clarity, logo usage, and proper disclaimer usage
Coordinate with information technology, multimedia, and program support staff and outside vendors in the development, production, distribution, and maintenance of promotional materials
Utilize a collection of B-roll/cover footage to use for promotional content
Design and launch email marketing campaigns
Create promotional template packages for multipurpose cases that meet the needs of each stakeholder
Recommend to whom, where, and when promotional materials should be disseminated
Measure usage and engagement rates of promotional materials (e.
g.
, website and social media usage rates)
Conduct focus group meetings to solicit targeted audience feedback
Provide updates, as requested, to leadership and BJA regarding engagement and new developments
Ship promotional materials, as needed

Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field preferred
Minimum of two years' directly related experience creating and developing promotional materials
Strong interpersonal skills and business acumen to interact with many different departments and decision makers within and outside the organization, including subject-matter experts and law enforcement officers

Some assignments may require travel.
